URGENT: Email Randwick Councillors to ban SGARs
Randwick's native wildlife needs your voice before Council votes on Tuesday, June 17.
What's at stake
SGARs are devastating Randwick's wildlife through a deadly poison chain. These rat poisons, found in products currently used by Randwick City Council, have been detected in 92% of Powerful Owl mortalities across Greater Sydney. With Powerful Owls listed as vulnerable in NSW and only 20-30 breeding pairs remaining in the entire Sydney region, every death from SGAR poisoning pushes this iconic species closer to local extinction.
At least 30 native species who call Randwick home face direct risk from these poisons, including kookaburras, rainbow lorikeets, green tree frogs, and brushtail possums. When predators eat poisoned rodents, they become the next victims in this toxic cycle.
The opportunity for meaningful change is now: Greens Councillors are presenting a motion to phase out SGARs from all Council operations and advocate for statewide action. But they need to see strong community support to secure the votes needed.
