MACSPORRAN
2025 DAY OF ACTION FOR GREYHOUNDS
IN THE LEAD UP TO THE DRAKE INQUIRY REPORT RELEASE
The release of the Drake Inquiry report into Greyhound Racing NSW is scheduled for 31 July 2025. The Inquiry was established under Part 8 of the Greyhound Racing Act 2017, following the public airing of disturbing and festering allegations about Greyhound Racing NSW's (GRNSW), Greyhounds As Pets (GAP NSW) Wyee facility, Hanrob, corruption, nepotism, and animal abuse, followed by the release of the explosive report penned by GRNSW’s former chief vet, Dr Alex Brittan.
With the imminent release of the Drake report looming, we may not have another opportunity to make our greyhound welfare expectations crystal clear to those elected and paid to represent us all, including the dogs.
Now is when we need to unite, come together and demand an end to commercial greyhound racing in NSW, and what is a gambling-fuelled dog-killing industry.
Despite the litany of serious allegations, NSW political interests framed the 'purpose' of the publicly paid Inquiry and the corresponding Inquiry's Terms of Reference to ensure, "a viable and sustainable greyhound racing industry in NSW with the highest standards of integrity and animal welfare." David Harris, MP and Minister for Gaming and Racing extended the original due date for the Acting Commissioner's report from 13 December 2024 to 30 April and then to 31 July 2025. In October 2024, Minister Harris also agreed to broaden the terms of reference of the Inquiry to allow a strong focus on GRNSW's financial management.

OPTION 1:
Chris Minns, David Harris, it’s time to shut down commercial greyhound racing in NSW. This is government sanctioned dog abuse, for a small minority and gambling profits.
Not a single track in NSW meets minimum standards. Forcing dogs to race on NSW death tracks is abhorrent and does not align with the expectations of NSW citizens; greyhounds are dogs - companions, not commercial commodities.
OPTION 2:
Chris Minns, David Harris, between January-June 2025, 141 greyhounds have been killed, and 5,495 injured on Australian greyhound death tracks. For the same period, In NSW, 27 greyhounds have been killed and 1,942 injured. This is unacceptable and can’t be justified.
Compassionate people won’t stand for animal suffering, neglect or cruelty and are questioning, how the NSW State Government can continue to allow this gambling-fuelled, dog killing industry to remain legal?
The NSW Greyhound Racing Industry has not reformed. GWIC investigations into GRNSW participants continue to confirm greyhound suffering, neglect, abuse and killing. GWIC investigations only capture a proportion of perpetrators.
This industry has continued to abuse greyhounds for decades, and is incapable of reform. It’s time to shut it down.
OPTION 3:
Chris Minns & David Harris, The US, NZ, Wales and Scotland are leading the way; NSW is a progressive society and must be next to ban commercial greyhound racing. #Shutitdown!
No gambling-fuelled, dog killing industry can be justified. Public money should never be used to prop this industry up.
Compassionate NSW citizens have had enough of broken industry and government promises about ‘reforming’ commercial greyhound racing. It’s incapable of reform. Outlaw and defund commercial greyhound racing.
GRNSW is taking the mythical ‘micky’ out of Minns. End greyhound racing.
There is no such thing as a ‘safe’ track. Look at the $80m plus QLD “Q” track. Stop killing dogs.
OPTION 4:
NSW has allocated millions of dollars of public money into a cruel and dying industry, allowing dogs to be over-bred, discarded as ‘wastage’, maimed, and killed on NSW death tracks and off track.
Chris Minns, David Harris, shut it down.
OPTION 5:
Chris Minns, David Harris, how can you support an industry that treats man's best friend as a disposable gambling commodity?
There is no reform that could ever be implemented to make greyhound racing an acceptable industry. In today’s society, good people won’t stand for dog exploitation and cruelty.
Please Premier and Minister, shut it down.
OPTION 6:
Broken legs. Shattered spines. Fractured necks. Drugging. Ongoing dog deaths.
Another day in NSW’s government-sanctioned commercial greyhound racing industry.
Chris Minns, David Harris - how much is too much? #ShutItDown
OPTION 7:
NSW taxpayers paid for the Drake Inquiry; an Inquiry that was never independent and excluded online oversight by anyone other than Sydney residents.
NSW citizens demand a full and transparent release of the Drake Inquiry report with no redactions on 31 July 2025.
OPTION 8:
Publicly financed Inquiries should not begin with the Premier and Minister announcing pre-determined outcomes. This is un-Australian and un-democratic and mocks the integrity of any Inquiry, and the intelligence of the Australian public.
Premier Minns, Minister Harris, show some respect for NSW citizens and uphold democratic and transparent processes.
