HORSE RACING KILLS
Thoroughbred racing
An industry lacking full transparency
NSW
Steward’s reports include the ‘official’ racing outcomes for thoroughbred horses such as injuries and deaths. In NSW, these are the Racing NSW steward’s reports. These official thoroughbred racing outcomes are then tracked and reported in the annual Deathwatch reports compiled by the Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses (CPR), for each racing season period between 1 August to 31 July each year.
Other ‘unofficial’ racing outcomes can be obtained through Freedom of Information requests or, in NSW, through an application under the Government Information and Public Access (GIPA) Act 2009.
