𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧 𝟏: Lisa Ryan - Director, Campaign Strategy & Planning, & Alex Vince - Director, Campaign Marketing and Engagement

The NSW Labor Minns/Moriarty Government recently introduced the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment (Enforcement and Operational Powers) Bill 2026. The Bill, a NSW Labor election promise, will update the 47 year old Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979 (POCTAA).

Contrary to the claims by the NSW Minister for Agriculture, Tara Moriarty, while there are some positive reforms, the Bill is inadequate, speciesist and disappointing, and will make very little difference for millions of NSW animals.

Join Animal Liberation's Director, Campaign Strategy and Planning - Lisa Ryan, and Director, Campaign Marketing and Engagement - Alex Vince to learn more about NSW's animal welfare and protection laws, the Bill, and our advocacy work to improve the lives of all NSW other-than-human animals through and animal rights platform.

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧 𝟐: Mick McIntyre & Kate McIntyre Clere, Directors - Kangaroos Alive

Kate McIntyre Clere is a multi-award winning documentary filmmaker who brings together key international social and environmental issues with beautiful cinematic storytelling. Her films include Gaining Ground, A Year On the Wing, Yogawoman, Aussie Rules The World, and A Hard Place. Kate's work has been reviewed in the New York Times, Variety, LA Times, and Woman's Day. Kate is an author for the Huffington Post and has contributed a chapter to a new USA book, 'Yoga and Body image'.

Mick McIntyre was given a super 9mm movie camera when he was 12 years old, and has been making films since then. Mick has spent 35 years in the film industry, starting out as a driver, and spent 10 years as an assistance director on feature films before finding his passion making documentaries. He combines his skills as a cinematographer with producing and directing. Mick's films include the award winning Yogawoman, What To Do About Whales, and Aussie Rules The World.

Mick and Kate will be speaking to the incredible work they have both been doing with Kangaroos Alive.

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧 πŸ‘: Laura Pytlik - Assistant Manager at Liberation Sanctuary

Liberation Sanctuary has been rescuing farmed animals for over 33 years, and is Australia's longest running dedicated sanctuary for animals freed from exploitation and slaughter inherrent in animal agriculture industries. The sanctuary started back in 1986 when several battery hens (white leghorns were the breed farmed back then) were surrendered to Patty Mark, the founder of Animal Liberation Victoria. Luckily Patty lived on a large block of land only 10 kilometres from Melbourne's CBD.

Over the next 30 years, the property would become home to hundreds of rescued animals. In 2016, ALV's urban sanctuary relocated to 45 rolling green acres, 90 minutes from Melbourne.

Laura Pytlilk has been with Liberation Sanctuary for the last 5 years, she started at the sanctuary as a German backpacker doing a Workaway Stay. Laura fell so in love with the animals and the sanctuary, that after the Workaway time ended, she never left.

Laura continued volunteering while starting her degree in Community Services, and eventually became part of the sanctuary's management team.
